Teh Future

Ok the final part of my update today is some news. As our regular readers know I am not happy about the speed of the site recently, well I think I have tracked it down however in order to solve the problem its going to take a big overhaul of the site. Now because of this I am going to be stepping back into the shadows for a little while as I try to get it all sorted out, so what that means is that I will not be throwing up as many updates as I have lately until I get it done. I will continue to update you all on the progress to a complete collection but that will be about it as I ferret around in the back end.

I will still be around to post in the forums and stuff so its not like I am dissappearing, and also it might give AtariBuff a kick up the butt to do some updates as I know he has some great stuff to show you guys. So everyone should hassle him to update, throw a comment on this post and I am sure with enough name calling we can get him to do it. :)

You will know when I am going to make a comeback on updates as well, as you will see a big change around here. Anyway for now I hope this is enough to keep you going for now. I will see you on the forums and try to get this done as soon as possible.

Cheers

Baby Got An Atom Bomb

Over the years the PlayStation has been graced with many games that have used licensed music as their soundtracks. Games such as Wipeout, Tony Hawks, and even in the later stages Fifa. Nowadays it is common place to see the latest games come with a musical accompaniment of the latest makeup wearing boy bands number one song. Oh and then there is also Guitar Hero and Rockband that are taking the licensed music addition to a whole new level.

It is down to this fact that I have added a new section to the PAL PlayStation Collective and that being Music CD’s. And to start it off I have already added two CD’s.

ODoubleLife.jpg OWipeout2097.jpg

I have also added a 3rd Party Software section. This is largely due to the interest in the screensavers and music programs I talked about a few weeks ago, and those mentioned will be added but for now I have added two other 3rd party releases, but don’t panic they are only cheat systems.

OXploderV4.jpg OXploderMedia.jpg

On the other news front I have managed to already pick off 3 targets in my quest for the end of my collection, as soon as they arrive I will throw up pictures to show everyone. I have also photographed all the other stuff waiting to be added to the site so soon there will be a few more wheels, memory cards, controllers and various other stuff added.

On a final note I need your help guys. I have been working through my list of needed games and generally it doesn’t look like it will be a problem picking up those final one or two without too much trouble other than finding the money to pay for them. I do however have one game that has eluded me for so long now and still manages to elude me to this day. So I am throwing out a hand for some help.

So if anyone sees Gekioh Shooting King for sale anywhere, please please please tell me. This son of a bitch has avoided me for too long. I have searched high and low for it and as of yet have never seen a complete copy for sale. Infact if someone gives me any information that leads to the eventual purchase of this game I will bake you cookies. Promise.

Heres what it looks like guys. Go hunting!!!!

And now the end is near…

Those immortal words are ringing out in the Defconsoft household at the moment, and its all due to us hitting the sub 30 mark in our hunt for all 1411 individual PAL releases. Thanks to recent additions mainly due to Lady Defcon hunting around like a mad lady we have really managed to knock our needed games number down, and bagged some nice bargains in the process. Also thanks to AtariBuff and coop1826 promising us some other games the light at the end of the tunnel is firmly in our sites and we are riding the last wave into the shore.

Below is the current needed list in the Defconsoft collection.

  • 102 Dalmatians: Puppies to the Rescue
  • Adibou Et L’Ombre Verte
  • Arcade’s Greatest Hits: The Midway Collection 2
  • Castlevania Symphony Of The Night Limited Edition
  • Championship Motocross 2001 Featuring Ricky Carmichael
  • Demolition Racer
  • Destruction Derby Raw / Porsche Challenge
  • Frank Thomas Big Hurt Baseball
  • Gekioh: Shooting King
  • Grand Theft Auto: Double Feature
  • Gute Zeiten – Schlechte Zeiten: Vol. 3
  • Guy Roux Football Manager Saison 97/98
  • Moorhuhn Kart
  • Namco Museum Vol. 4
  • Nascar 2000
  • NBA in the Zone 2000
  • NBA Live 2003
  • Raiden Project, The
  • Rayman Junior: Anfaenger
  • Star Ocean: The Second Story
  • Super Pang Collection
  • Tail Concerto
  • Taxi 2: Le Jeu
  • Tekken / Ridge Racer
  • Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf 2000
  • Wer Wird Millionaer: Dritte Edition
  • Who Wants To Be a Millionaire / Who Wants To Be a Millionaire: 2nd
  • X-Men vs. Street Fighter
  • Yattaman: Time Bokan

As you can see it mainly consists of non UK releases, expensive games, and games that have just been my nemesis. Games like Tiger Woods 2000, everytime I seem to get the Classic version, Nascar 2000 the same. And don’t even get me started on 102 Dalmations :) .

Now a lot of these will be picked up when I have the money or I can find an international seller that has a few of them to save on postage costs, cos I am tight.

However I am now going into sniper mode. Whenever one of these games arrives through my letterbox I will throw up a post to tell you so that you can all experience what its like to hunt for those final games in a collection.

And to give you something to look forward to, when the last one arrives I will throw up a photo on the site of both me and Lady Defcon and whatever game that might be.

So the real hunt begins now. Its time to get mean, get keen and nail down those final games. Keep tuned to see how we do.

Cheers

UPDATE!!!

Link >> Its been relisted << Link

ps-castlevaniasotnlim.jpg

Well lets see now. As you know, well at least the frequent visitors to the site here know, I do get a bee in my bonnet about eBay and its buyers/sellers now and again. I really hate to see when sellers do not get the money they deserve for their rarish items because people contact them on the side and get them to take whatever game out of a bundle and sell it to them cheap (only for those people to relist it straight away and get the profit.

And it drives me crazy when people ask for insane amounts of postage for small tiny items that cost next to nothing to send. And grrr I do hate those power sellers that use stock photos!. And….. see I get a little irate.

However sometimes I do just have to sit back, pour myself a beer, light up a cigarette and say to myself…… OMG WHAT THE FUCK!!!

And yes dear readers I did that just now, and I WTF’d so much I had to come on here and write about it straight away. So want to know what I was WTF’ing at? Well this

PLAYSTATION 1/2/3,CASTLEVANIA SYMPHONY OF THE NIGHT,NEW

If you click the above link you will find, at the time of writing, a Castlevania Symphony of the Night Limited Edition and the stupid price of ??140 with almost 2 days left to run.

Now first off, that’s batshit insane!!! The game is not that damn rare. There are at least 50 for sale all over Europe at the moment. Yes this may well be a decent example of the game, with no scratches etc but still its not worth ??140.

Now that would be enough to drive my WTF meter to full, however there was something that drive it even higher than possible and that was the little blue text underneath the current price. And that being Reserve Not Met!!

Reserve not met? OMG WTF LOLZ!!! Talk about a greedy seller. Its no wonder that this game becomes ’seemingly rare’ when people put reserves on over that amount. Seriously this is enough to put me off collecting PlayStation altogether. So i would just like to go on the record now and say.

THIS GAME IS NOT ALL THAT RARE. Yes it may well be a good game, but it is not that rare, and the extras you get for it being a ‘limited edition’ are not worth an extra ??100 on top of what the standard edition would give you, and you can get it on Xbox Live as well for a couple of quid.

You wanna know a rare game? Try finding Whizz. That’s a rare game. Or TinTin UK version, thats a rare game, or Jet Ace, thats a rare game. Castlevania Symphony of the Night, that is NOT a rare game and is not worth ??140 plus. And anyone willing to pay that amount of money (and yes I am looking at you Bidder 6) deserves to have their testicles stapled to their eyelids.

/rant off

I guess we will be discussing this in the comments so please feel free to add your flames/insults/castlevania fanboyism towards me.

Cheers

Controller Freaks

June 15, 2008 | In Defcon | Comments Off

So while I await a response on a technical issue that is stopping me from speeding the site up I was sat here thinking what could I do? I then looked up above my computer and realised I had a lot of ‘to do’ stuff sitting here waiting to be thrown on the site. So I decided to do it now, well some of it anyway, and as usual the wife and I still have our strange third party controller fetish so here are a few new ones to look at.

Jaguar Dual Analogue Controller Dance II Performance LightBlaster
Jaguar Controller Dance II Performance LightBlaster
P7K Light Gun 360 Modena Racing Wheel
P7K Light Gun 360 Modena Wheel

So nothing of any great significance there, but still more hardware added to the pile that we currently have in our collection. Now if only I could say that made a dent in the backlog of stuff I have to put on the site, but it doesn’t, exciting news for you readers I guess, not for me however who has to find time to throw it up. But I will and soon.

Folks,
after having had the busiest time in the year at work and not posting anything usefull for quite some time, I just wanna let you know that I’m leaving for Egypt tomorrow and will be back on the 19th of June. Then I shall be relaxed enough to make contributions to this great website of ours again and I’m really looking forward to it. I just love PAL PlayStation 1 games and our little, friendly collecting community!!!

Have a good time while I’m away,

Unofficial PAL PlayStation Releases

June 10, 2008 | In Defcon | Comments Off

Well its been a little while I know but I have been major busy and have actually had to upgrade my home machine due to Age of Conan not running on my old rig so my machine has been out of action for a while. However I am back now and I am getting straight back into the swing of things. First of all I have upgraded a few of the plugins including the forums so they are up to date now. Secondly I have been doing some security investigations thanks to our unannounced visitor the other day, hopefully it won’t happen again but we will have to just wait and see. And finally I have been looking into speeding the site up even further, and hopefully we should see a big improvement this weekend as I am preparing to do a big upgrade server side.

But I cannot just leave it at the for you guys so lets have a little look at some software shall we.

Well I think most of know about these 2 following games.

fl.jpg fl2.jpg
Fun & Learning Fun and Learning 2

Now these are two unofficial releases from Blaze, unofficial because they do not have SLES or SCES numbers and therefore never went through Sony’s Submission process that the official games do have to go through.

The Fun and Learning series are a bunch of edutainment like games for kids between 5-9 to play in an effort to improve their learning skills while playing games at the same time. There are games that improve spelling, hand-eye co-ordination, letter and number recognition, maths, and memory. Built upon the usual game mechanic systems like matching pairs, collecting letter while platforming and puzzle based aspect.

Now these are not the only pieces of software that Blaze released through unofficial channels. Below are three other titles all from the same people.

feeding.jpg

Feeding Frenzy

Feeding Frenzy is a set of screensavers for you to run through your PS1. It features 9 different room enhancing screensavers across three different themes, Shark, Eagle & Piranha. It features and I quote ‘Amazing Full Motion 3D Movies’ !!

fireplace.jpg

Virtual Fireplace

Yes you read that right, it does say Virtual Fireplace. Not all of us can feel what its like to sit in front of a roasting hot fire inside a wooden chalet in some Austrian mountain location. Well now we can with Virtual Fireplace. Yes its a screensaver of a fireplace.

But wait it also includes Virtual Space and Virtual Disco!!! And once again I quote ‘Calling all disco queens! The collection of disco screensavers transforms your living room into a virtual nightclub’. I am sure AtariBuff could really use something like this for his Saturday night prep routine before he hits the discoteques.

And Virtual Space, because in space no one can hear you save your screen.

dsp.jpg

DSP Music Revelation

And finally we have this twin CD pack. Basically it is an enhanced music player for your PS1. You throw this disk into your console and soon you will have an enhanced CD player, and effects menu and a unique light-to-sound screen effect.

Or in other words. A Cd player front end, something to make your music sound like its coming from a toilet, and some pretty raytracing on screen that will either take you back to the 70’s or a bad trip listening to the Happy Mondays.

It does however come with a bonus CD which includes music from Final Fantasy x, Resident Evil and Virtua Fighter (a game that was never released on PlayStation).

Well there you go, a little look at some unofficial PAL PS1 releases. Now one caveat, these all bare the legend ‘For PlayStation 2 & Psone’ so they are not 100% PS1 releases, however they are part of the history I guess.

Also these are not that easy to get hold of, they come up on eBay now and again, and also on Amazon if you are lucky, but if you do manage to see them for a cheap price it might be worth snapping them up.

And just to start you off…

Feeding Frenzy on eBay
Virtual Fireplace on eBay
DSP Music Revelation on eBay

Right I’m off to site infront of my Virtual Fireplace, throw some banging happy hardcore into my Light-to-sound screen generator, and feed my virtual shark….

Oh and keep an eye out for anymore unofficial releases and be sure to mention any that you know of or see.

Cheers

The Final Stretch – Poster Marathon Climax

May 26, 2008 | In Defcon | Comments Off

Well guys I know I promised hardware but as usual things have got hectic on this Bank Holiday weekend and I haven’t had time to get through the paperwork for the new additions. Still I do have the old posters in my back pocket and to put an end to your turmoil I am throwing up the whole lot of them, along with one special find that I will highlight at the end.

So I am sorry if this slows your browsers down to a crawl but here are the rest of the best.

PActuaGolf.jpg PActuaIceHockey.jpg PAnnaK2.jpg
PApeEscape.jpg PAsteroids.jpg PBatmanCityRacer.jpg
PCoolboarders3.jpg PCroc2.jpg PEquation.jpg
PGamesGerman.jpg PInColdBlood.jpg PNFLXtreme.jpg
PPlayStationValue.jpg PRacingSimulation.jpg PSpeedFreaks.jpg
PTenchu.jpg PTRChronicGuns.jpg PTRChronicLara.jpg

So we got various hardware and software posters there, some German stuff, some UK stuff, some Tomb Raider, so Ape Escape, some In Cold Blood, some Actua’s. The list is endless, well its not actually as that is it, it has ended. Yayyyy!!!!

Oh wait no I promised you one special one didn’t I. Well here it is

PWild9.jpg

This is actually a poster that was used in UK phone boxes to advertise a competition in line with Wild9. It was supposed to encourage people to throw some money in the phone and press an assigned button in order to get entered into a competition to win a holiday in California.

Now why is this special? Well the fact that one of these is actually in existence is amazing considering what UK phone boxes actually get used for, lets just say its not for making phone calls :)

Well there we go another marathon finished finally, and this one was a pretty long one. Like I said more updates are still planned, along with some new features to the site as soon as Lady Defcon has got her stuff together and is ready to go with her section. She is trying her hardest guys, so be patient.

Cheers
